When recent clients from Milton, GA first purchased their new house, they were overwhelmed with how to transform it into a home that met the needs of their family and suited their style. They were first recommended to AHT Interiors by their builder and contacted us to see how we could help them.
They had moved to this country just 8 years ago, leaving their families and friends behind and having to adapt to a new culture. This made having a welcoming home even more important to them and their 6-year-old daughter.
After an initial meeting with the clients to discuss their needs, preferences and lifestyle, we started working on plans to help them create a home that was a reflection of their tastes. They are both successful professionals in their field and have worked hard to accomplish their goals; they wanted their home to be a place that was both stylish and comfortable where they could feel proud to entertain friends and host family members from overseas.
We began working on the areas of the home they utilize the most: the family room, kitchen/breakfast area and adjacent keeping room. These areas were all open to one another, so it was important to establish a color palette and style that would flow through the main level of their home. Comfortable, quality furnishings were an important consideration as well. We started with a predominantly neutral color scheme of tans, browns and creams and added contrasting pops of burnt orange and apple green accents. (If you are looking for input on your home’s color scheme, please feel free to download my free Color Guide to Interior Decorating.)
After completing these priority areas, we then moved on to creating the inviting foyer area, a fully functioning and stylish home office and a guest suite, also located on the main floor.
Their daughter’s birthday occured soon after we finished these areas of the home. She had been living in a room with just her mattress, clothes and toys – with nowhere to put away her belongings. It was now time for her to enjoy her own bedroom and play/study area. After discreetly gathering some information about her likes and personality, we planned all of the areas in her bedroom, play area and bathroom. We designed all of her bedding and window treatments and arranged to wait until everything was ready before unveiling the final finished rooms on her birthday. Imagine her delight after she left for school in the morning, for what seemed to be any other day, to arrive home to her new rooms!! Big letters spelled out her name on the wall, welcoming friends and family to her very own suite. She was thrilled to see the princess-themed colors and canopy bed, fun swivel chairs and her very own play area – and all of her toys, books, and keepsakes were organized on shelves, in bins or in closets.
We are now working on completing the family’s dining room, upstairs media room and then on to my favorite … the master suite! In the meantime, please feel free to watch this video containing before and after photos of their home, as well as some of their comments about the design process and working with AHT Interiors.
Also, allow their daughter to tell you about her new suite:
