Family Haven is a non-profit organization that provides shelter, safety and support for abused women and children in our community. After reviewing their application for our 2016 Designing Dreams charitable makeover, we unanimously decided to select Family Haven as this year’s recipient. As you can imagine, this is not an easy choice; we receive many requests from deserving individuals, families and other non-profit organizations that serve them. This will be the 6th makeover we have been able to provide since inception in 2009.
I had heard of Family Haven before but had never been to their facility. While touring the interior spaces with Executive Director, Shandra Dawkins, I was taken aback by what a great need we have for a place like this right in our own backyard. It was staggering to learn the number of victims of domestic violence who die every year as a result of this abuse. Many people lose their lives because they feel they have nowhere to go. Family Haven provides a safe, healing, home-like environment and helps their residents get back on their feet and improve their lives.
I am currently working on an overall design concept, space plan and color scheme for both the common living area and adjacent dining area. The intent is to create a warm, comfortable, home-like environment. While we provide our time and design expertise to completing this makeover, we also rely on other businesses and individuals in the community to help fund this effort. We will need to purchase many new products to complete both areas. I am able to get much of this at a discounted designer price from my vendors, but there is still a significant cost involved; we will need to raise approximately $7000 – $8000.
This is where we ask for help from the community to help bridge the gap. All funds will go directly toward this year’s makeover for Family Haven. Designing Dreams is a 501c-3 organization, so all donations are tax deductible, and you will be provide with a receipt for your records. We cover all administrative costs. Instead of spending money on fund-raising endeavors, AHT Interiors has elected to put any monies it is donating toward this cause directly toward the purchase of products and materials. Any contribution makes a difference, and we want to recognize those that have helped to turn this vision into a reality. Please share this page with any others that you feel would want to participate.

Thank you in advance for opening your hearts to helping those who are going through a difficult time in their lives! We, at least, want to be able to give them an environment to live in during this transitionary period that has a positive impact on them.
