Another whirlwind tour at market this spring! There is always so much to see in so little time. I will share the highlights of my trip and the trends I observed in dozens of vendor showrooms in several different blogs. Let’s start with COLOR!
EMERALD– I have already been highlighting this hue named as the Pantone Color of the Year for 2013. Good luck to those of you who do not share a penchant for this fresh shade of green! It was prevalent in many showrooms and used as an accent wall color in a few. From finishes on casegoods, to lamps, accessories, textiles and rugs, Emerald is a strong presence this year!
ORCHID– Varying shades of purple are making a strong comeback after years of taking the backstage. I am seeing it appear in tones as deep as plum and eggplant to softer, more pastel-like shades that remind me of lilac and wisteria. It can be used to create a sophisticated, subtle look when paired with a neutral color like gray, or it can be used as part of a livelier color scheme in a room when paired with some of the bright citrus colors such as lime green, sunny yellow or tangerine.
BLACK, WHITE & RED– The classic black and white duo never goes out of style, and this year it is infused with a strong red to create a striking, dramatic statement. Luxury fabric brand, Scalamandre, has joined forces with bedding company, Eastern Accents, to create a fabric that deftly demonstrates this color scheme.
GRAY– Shades of gray continue to be the neutral color of choice this year. Look for it in a more saturated charcoal color as well as a light, smoky shade. You will see examples of this shade in grayed, driftwood-like furniture finishes as well as textiles, rugs and accessories. It works well when paired with a lively, citron yellow or a more subdued shade of plum.
I’ll be back with the most popular patterns and prints!
