When Tom and Angela purchased this waterfront home on Lake Lanier, it was fulfilling their dream of living on the lake, but the furnishings from their previous traditional, suburban home did not fit with the style and space of their new home. We first focused on the design and furnishings for the large great room, which encompassed their living and dining areas into one large space. Click here to read about their Great Room makeover.
Once the plans for that area were underway, we turned our attention to helping them create a master bedroom that would serve as a retreat from their busy professional lives.
This master bedroom has some great architectural features such as the vaulted wood stained tongue and groove ceiling, built-in bookcases and stone fireplace. A pair of french doors open onto a private screened porch with fabulous views of Lake Lanier.
A custom upholstered headboard for the king size bed with tufted details creates a great focal point for the room and accentuates the height of the ceiling. The neutral color scheme of the bedding echoes the subdued tones of the room. A grouping of black and white framed prints over the bed depict scenes of sailing on the lake.
The custom built-in bookcases and stone fireplace add a lot of character to the master suite but seem stark and bare without the proper accents.
A comfortable chair and ottoman is a nice place to relax by the fire on colder evenings. We added a variety of accessories for the bookcases among the clients’ vast collection of hardcover books to create an interesting balance.
A long bare wall to the left of the entry door into the room needs to provide some functional space.
A dresser with dark wood tones and drawer fronts in a lighter finish balances all the wood tones on the ceiling. An unusual mirror gives a nautical feel to this lakefront home, and the interesting lamp on the dresser adds another layer of accent lighting to this space.
