When I was first contacted by this client, neither of us realized that I lived just two miles down the road and that my design studio was located less than two miles from his office in an adjoining city. Small world!
He has a beautiful home on Lake Lanier that was designed by a renowned Atlanta architect ten years ago. While the architecture and the setting, with sweeping views of the lake, were on par with the client’s tastes, he was ready to transform his home’s interior spaces.
Our services were engaged to transform the main level of this stately home; this encompassed the foyer, great room, dining room, breakfast area and master suite. The very open and spacious floor plan required careful planning to ensure that all areas flowed smoothly and harmoniously with one another. Furnishings also needed to be proportionate in scale with the rooms’ dimensions and high ceilings.
The client provided feedback at the onset of the project regarding his preference for a cleaner, more transitional look and for preserving the lake views. Of course, comfort was a priority! It also had to be dog friendly as the owner has a black lab and another lab mix rescue dog.
Traditional artwork was replaced with more contemporary styles. Seating arrangements were grouped to allow for easy conversation in the great room, and the master suite became lighter, fresher and more tranquil in nature. The dining area retained a more formal feel – but with contemporary lines and pieces added to the mix.
We began the project in April of 2016 and completed the final installation in November of the same year. The most gratifying part is hearing the client tell me after the ‘reveal’ date that he “couldn’t be happier”, and we had done “an extraordinary job”! This is why we do what we do.
