What is it about lakefront and ocean front homes that make them so appealing? Of course, the obvious answer is that they have water views and access. But, beyond that, it is an entire lifestyle and environment that is so very different than life in the ‘burbs that beckons you in.
I have enjoyed working with many clients in their waterfront homes and have come to have a passion for helping them create these stylish yet COMFORTABLE and inviting retreats. I am often asked what makes these homes, and the people who live in them, so different.
Having spent the past several years living in a community on Lake Lanier, I will share some of my insight with you. First, the “living” happens on the lakefront side of the home. As opposed to the normal subdivision or suburban home where neighbors wave at each other from their driveways, these folks wave to each other from their docks or boats. Also, the entire mood is much more relaxed. Whether it is a modest lakeside cottage or a multi-million dollar estate, they share a common sense of harmony and serenity and can co-exist quite nicely in the same community. There is typically a greater sense of privacy in the surroundings and more space between homes.
One of the aspects that I enjoy most about working in these homes is that they are all so different and unique. Every floor plan is quite different from the next. This is because they weren’t all built at the same time, as in many of today’s subdivisions and even custom home communities. Many of the homes on Lake Lanier, Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee were built 30+ years ago. Most of these have been remodeled, restructured or rebuilt in some way. The newer homes are custom built and rarely by the same builder in the same area. No two are alike.
Love where you live!! And let’s hope it is in a waterfront home. — Allison
