Trying to decide what decorating style you prefer? Do you prefer a neutral palette but don’t want to get bored with the look? Take a look at the following two rooms!
Do you prefer a more subdued neutral living area or one with a splash of color? These two images from Global Views give you the opportunity to see how the same living room with the same wall color, sofa and end tables can take on two completely different styles with and without accent colors.
This first image shows the space in a neutral color palette. Since there is very little contrast in colors and no pattern used, it is peaceful, calm and tranquil. What keeps this room from being “ho hum”? While the gray sofa is a neutral color, the darker hue does lend some soft contrast to the white tinted walls, furnishings and area rug. The darker wood tone of the end tables also provides some much needed warmth to this space. Varying textures is another technique used by interior designers when working with monochromatic rooms. The clean lines of the cantilever chairs and sleek coffee table are balanced with the plush sofa and throw pillows as well as the tufted area rug. A tonal canvas like this is very easy to live with!
The splashes of bright orange in the accessories, pillows and area rug give some punch to the neutral base. The chairs are still shown in a white leather, and the wall color, sofa and end tables remain the same. The collection of colorful glass vases is a great way to give a fireplace that is unused in the warmer months a seasonal look. An asymmetrical arrangement above the mantel gives this room a funkier, more playful feel.
This is a quick way to change up the look of a room without a complete re-do!
