We’re back from the Fall High Point Furnishing Market and ready to share our experience with our readers! There’s always such a variety to see at HPMKT, but beautiful trends certainly emerged as we traveled from one showroom to the next.

Modular Sofas

The first trend we spotted this market was a preponderance of modular sofas!

These types of sofas are becoming extremely popular. They are quite similar to sectional sofas, but they integrate the ability to interchange pieces. Modular sofas are moveable, whereas sectional sofas are meant to stay in one place; modular seating is also very expandable.

In our opinion, here are some excellent reasons to use modular sofas in your interior design:

  1. You can build your own design tailored to your personal tastes and particular needs.
  2. You can easily vary the size by purchasing only the amount of pieces you need in your room.
  3. Very versatile – you can put several pieces together and then move them around to suit your room, your mood, or even a particular event.

We certainly love these sofas and the fact that they are super stylish while also being highly adaptable!

Bar Carts for a Myriad of Uses

We spotted several showrooms displaying bar carts this fall season.  These cool carts were a staple in many living rooms of the past but had taken a hiatus in more recent years. Now they appear to be all the rage again!

Because there is such an array of styles and options available, you can make your bar cart all about your personal taste, choosing one that will best suit your purpose and style.  You can even design your cart with a theme in mind; try using all vintage glasses, decanters and ice buckets or go all-out modern and glamorous ala Carrie Bradshaw!

Whatever your preference, a well-appointed bar cart is key for your holiday gatherings and parties.

Bar carts are so much more than they seem, however. Besides the obvious use as storage and serving for your libations, these carts can be incorporated into many other areas of your home. Here are a few ideas for using these versatile mobile pieces; use your imagination to come up with the perfect use in your own home:

  • In the kitchen, eating area or keeping room as a coffee/tea station
  • In the den or media room as a movie night station
  • In the guest room to hold supplies and treats
  • As a display piece for art, plants, or dishes
  • As storage for beauty supplies and nail polish
  • In the bathroom to hold towels and bath items
  • In the office for all those work supplies that are difficult to tame
  • In the kitchen to store small kitchen appliances and cookbooks
  • As an open pantry in or near the kitchen
  • As a serving cart for brunch, desserts, fruit or ice cream when entertaining
  • In your bedroom as a bedside table or nightstand
  • As a display area for jewelry or other small accessories
  • Out by the swimming pool to hold towels and a water dispenser

As you can see, there are many uses for these beautiful pieces – try one out and let us know how you used yours!

Upholstery Trends

Hand-tufted furniture continues to trend in today’s designs – we saw quite a bit of it during Fall Market. This trend lends itself to comfort, but always brings an air of sophistication to a room.

Other interesting upholstery trends we spotted were modern-looking vertical and horizontal channeling as well as more relaxed tailored looks for a simple, slightly casual feel.  The details are somewhat exaggerated; and the unexpected nature of those details certainly draws the eye to the simple, fresh elegance.  We sat in several of these pieces and the comfort was amazing!

As always, love where you live … and let us know if you need help doing so. We listen to our clients and create spaces that help them feel happy, relaxed and surrounded by beauty.

Lovely Lamps and Lighting

Lamps and lighting took center stage again this season, bringing great new options for homeowners! Styles ranged from mid-century to modern and art deco, including looks with less clutter and cleaner lines.

Lighting serves not only as illumination for a room but also contributes to tone; it allows us to incorporate color and texture within a room. Lighting also happens to be one of the least expensive home upgrades we can choose.

Statement chandeliers are certainly making their mark; these lighting fixtures really aim for that wow factor!  The current chandelier motto seems to be “go big or go home.”

Lighting is still seen in the full array of colors: soft golds, warm brass, brushed nickel, and blacks.  Don’t be tempted to choose fixtures that you are seeing everywhere just because they are on trend; choose lighting that works best in your home and reflect your tastes. The choices are extensive, so choose pieces you’ll love!

Accessory Groupings

Home accessories can give your home the instant update it requires without having to completely redecorate.  They display your style and add personality, along with tasteful pops of color, to an otherwise neutral décor.

You should steer clear of cluttering your spaces with accessories. Instead, add them in a grouping rather than dotted around your room. This creates an aesthetically pleasing collection that will attract more attention while avoiding that ‘messy’ look.

Blue and green accessories were certainly showcased beautifully at Fall High Point Market.  These colors are always restful and relaxing and they typically take on a natural element.  Blue, in all of its shades, remains the most popular accessory color in the world, followed closely by shades of green.

Metallics were also prevalent at Market! These accessories are fun, lively and playful – adding a modern twist along with sophistication and elegance.
