Do you remember the beautiful grasscloth wallpapers from the ’70s? Are you as thrilled as we are that this beautiful trend has returned?

Today’s grasscloth wallcoverings are offered in a variety of styles for a range of design budgets, from inexpensive grass-look prints to expensive all-natural grasscloth papers. But there is a middle ground!

We now have access to faux grasscloth wallpapers that are printed and then overlaid with strings for the natural look and texture of grasscloth. There are several reasons that a client would opt for this type of paper, most notably price and usability.

Traditional grasscloth wallpaper is on the expensive side and is a bit ‘fussy’; it doesn’t do well near water or in intense sunlight, can’t really be cleaned, and tends to absorb odors. There is also typically color variation from panel to panel, making installation somewhat more difficult. If you’re planning to use it in a small, interior room that doesn’t get much foot traffic (i.e., a den or office), these issues might not be a problem for you. But if you don’t want to deal with these downsides, you can always go the faux route. Your wallpaper will definitely be less expensive—and likely washable as well.

Dining Room Design - after

The wallpaper we used in this room, Grasseffects by Wallquest, is an environmentally friendly print, stamped and then acrylic-coated with natural strings to mimic the feel of real grasscloth. It brings beautiful color, pattern, and texture to a room’s walls. Our clients agreed that it was the ideal choice for their dining room makeover, offering the perfect backdrop for the other accessories in the room.

We hung the ivory window treatments with acrylic poles and antique gold hardware to give them a bit of glam alongside the lovely gold mirror. With the glass blown baby blue lamps as an attention-grabbing highlight, the overall feel of the room is luxurious and modern.

Are you in need of a dining room update? You know who to call; the team at AHT Interiors will listen well to your preferences, lifestyle and needs, presenting you with beautiful interior spaces that you will love to live in.
