The three big names in design color – Pantone, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore – have chosen their 2021 Colors of the Year!
To be sure, all three companies went in different directions this year, but you can certainly see the reflection of our current lives and lifestyles in each choice.
Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2021:Urbane Bronze
First up … Sherwin Williams’ color and its nod to our current situation: “Now more than ever, our homes have become the backdrop to our lives, reminding us that the moments worth cherishing have always been right in front of us. As we’re looking to create the ultimate retreat for reflection and renewal, we’re turning to a hue whose natural simplicity and nature-inspired energy cultivate a sense of calm from the ground up.”
We couldn’t agree more.
SW 7048 Urbane Bronze is a warm and modern neutral color. This shade looks awesome on kitchen cabinets, and is stunning on both interior and exterior doors, exterior shutters, and even accent walls! We also frequently see this splash of color in granite countertops and area rugs.
Our CEO chose Urbane Bronze back in 2019 for her home’s exterior shutters and overhangs.
Sherwin Williams also suggests two coordinating colors:
Pantone Color of the Year 2021: Ultimate Gray & Illuminating
The colorists at Pantone had their own message regarding their pairing of colors: “A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting … It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.”
Pantone 13-0647 Illumination is such a bright and sunny color, and it looks beautiful alongside the complementary Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray. We put together a few samples showcasing these colors (we think they look wonderful with a pretty pop of fuchsia.)
Pantone created a page with five different color palettes containing both of these colors … click here to see their Ultimate Gray + Illuminating palettes.
Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2021: Aegean Teal
Benjamin Moore’s description also feels like it was inspired by our difficult year: “Take a moment to reflect and reset. Intriguing, balanced, and deeply soothing, the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2021, Aegean Teal 2136-40, creates natural harmony.”
Benjamin Moore’s 2136-40 Aegean Teal is a harmonious mix of blue, green, and gray. It creates that feeling of natural harmony, while also adding a wonderful pop of color. We love it.
We also love this palette of colors that they included to accompany their Color of the Year. Beautiful!
