Our outdoor living spaces are taking center stage these days. Some of us are working from home for the time being and outdoor living is becoming an important extension of our lives. We all need a place to unwind and relax – what better way to do so than to enjoy your own outdoor oasis? Whether your space is large or small, there are many creative ways to incorporate a fresh outdoor living area. And whether you are sprucing up your back patio, sundeck, front porch, or all three, creating areas that are as comfortable as your indoor space is the key to enjoying them for many years.
AHT Interiors is excited to present our three-part article series highlighting ways to update your outdoor spaces! Our first article in the series focused on the quality of your outdoor furniture and fabrics. Today we’ll focus on outdoor dining and showcase some beautiful outdoor accessories.
Dining ‘al fresco’ is a common ritual during the warmer months of the year; an outside dining area provides beautiful surroundings for sharing a meal with family and friends. It can also help allow for entertaining while social distancing by bringing your guests outside the home. That’s why now is the time to focus on your outside living and entertaining spaces!
If your patio or deck is uncovered, consider arranging your dining table and chairs out near your trees for a comfortable and sheltered space. During the day the trees will provide must-needed shade as well as a closer-to-nature ambiance. At night, those trees will provide you with the perfect place to hang charming string lights or even a chandelier. We recently spotted a chandelier that can be raised and lowered with a rope pulley – what a great idea!
If you choose to bring your cooking outdoors as well, you can benefit from bringing some of that heat outside – always a welcome situation in the hot summer months. This also allows the grill chef to socialize with guests while the meal is being prepared.
We can’t forget the city dwellers! If your space is too small for a dining table, create a little nook using café chairs and a small bistro table. This creates a cozy space where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or dinner for two. The structure of your small patio or balcony can provide the same ability to hang lights or a chandelier, so don’t forget that important aspect.
There are many ways to add style and personality to your outdoor area, and accessories can take your space from pleasant to perfect. Choose between smaller touches like colorful ceramic stools, pillows, poufs/ottomans, metallic planters, floor lamps, table lamps, and string lighting – these are excellent for integrating your favorite colors. If you have a covered deck, consider a hanging day bed – some of the modern designs are stunning. For a true vacation vibe, a hammock will definitely do the trick, whether on the patio or out in the yard. And unless your area is situated in the soft grass, be sure to choose an outdoor rug for comfort and to tie your oasis together.
Our next article in the series will focus on the four natural elements and how they can be embraced within your home’s outdoor living spaces.
